Content

The statistics include information about the amount of silvicultural and forest improvement work carried out in forests annually and the related unit and total costs. Areas treated with fellings are presented by felling method. For forest seedlings, the statistics present planted seedling volumes and provide information about foreign trade in seedlings. In addition, the statistics include information about forest tree seeds.

Categories

The statistics are compiled by work type, ownership category (regional division by price regions) and regions. Areas treated with felling are presented by felling method. Material on artificial forest regeneration is classified into seed and seedling categories.

Data collection and sources

Information about silvicultural and forest improvement work is collected from forest service enterprises, the forest industry and the state by means of a survey. Since 2015, the statistics have not included work carried out independently by forest owners in their own forests, as it is not possible to collect such data from forest service providers. Areas treated with fellings information is based on notifications of forest use received from the Finnish Forest Centre. The Finnish Food Authority is responsible for collecting material about seed and seedling volumes.

Update frequency

The statistics are published annually.

Preparation and publication schedule

The statistics are published once a year in August following the statistical year in accordance with the release calendar.

Time series

Work types affect the availability of information. For some work types, information is available starting from the 1950s, but some work types have not been recorded until the 2000s.
