Foreign trade in fish, 4/2020 (preliminary)

  • In April 2020, about 5.7 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland, which was worth EUR 10.8 million. The volume of exports decreased by 3 million kilos from April of the previous year, and the value of exports by 2.3 million euros. To the previous month; compared to March 2020, the value of exports decreased by six million euros, while the volume of exports decreased by only just over 4%.
  •  The amount of products exported for human consumption was 5 million kilos, worth EUR 10.2 million. This was less than ten percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year, and about 18 percent less than in the previous month. 0.7 million kilograms were exported for non-human consumption.
  •  The volume of imports of fish and fish products decreased by about 0.5 million kilos in April, and the value of imports decreased by EUR 10.7 million (26%) compared to April of the previous year. The volume of imports of fish and fish products was 7.1 million kilograms and the value of imports was 30.6 million euros.
  •  The volume of products imported for human consumption was 6.6 million kilos and the value was EUR 30.3 million. 0.5 million kilograms were imported for non-human consumption.
  • 3.3 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported from Norway in April. It was 0.4 million kilos more than in April of the previous year. As such, 1.6 million kilos of imported salmon were further exported to Europe.
  •  In the first four months of 2020, a total of 13.6 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported, of which 7.5 million kilos were further exported to Europe. 6.1 million kilos of imported salmon remained in Finland, which was 0.3 million kilos more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of salmon imports increased by EUR 1 million and the value of exports by EUR 4.2 million. The value of salmon left in Finland decreased by EUR 3.3 million.
  •  Of the total number of products imported for human consumption, 62 percent (4 million kg) came from Norway.
