In March 2020, approximately 6 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland, which was worth EUR 17.1 million. The volume of exports was 2.8 million kilos lower and the value EUR 5.1 million higher than in March of the previous year.
The amount of products exported for human consumption was 5.5 million kilograms (value EUR 16.7 million). 0.5 million kilograms were exported for non-human consumption.
The volume of imports of fish and fish products increased by about 1.9 million kilos in March. At the same time, the value of imports increased by EUR 5.7 million compared to March of the previous year. The volume of imports was 8.5 million kilos and the value of imports was just over 42 million euros.
The volume of products imported for human consumption was 7.7 million kilos and the value was EUR 39.1 million. Just under 0.6 million kilos were imported for non-human consumption.
3.5 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported from Norway in March. It was almost a million kilos more than in March of the previous year. As such, 1.9 million kilos of imported salmon were further exported to Europe.
In the first quarter of 2020, 10.1 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported, of which 5.9 million kilos were further exported to Europe. 4.2 million kilos remained in Finland, which was 0.1 million kilos less than in the first quarter of the previous year. The value of imports increased by EUR 5.7 million and the value of exports by EUR 6.2 million. The value of salmon left in Finland decreased by EUR 0.4 million.
Of the total number of products imported for human consumption, 57 percent (4.5 million kilos) came from Norway.
