In May 2020, approximately 9.2 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland, which was worth EUR 13.9 million. The volume of exports decreased by 0.15 million kilos from May of the previous year, and the value of exports by 2.7 million euros.
The amount of products exported for human consumption was 8.2 million kilos (EUR 13 million). This was 0.8 million kilos more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. However, the value of exports was EUR 2.2 million lower. Just under a million kilos were exported for non-human consumption.
The volume of imports of fish and fish products decreased by 1.6 million kilograms in May, and the value of imports by EUR 15.1 million (30%) compared to May of the previous year. The volume of imports of fish and fish products was 8.4 million kilos and the value of imports was 36 million euros.
The volume of products imported for human consumption was 7.1 million kilos and the value was EUR 34.9 million. 1.2 million kilograms were imported for non-human consumption.
3.9 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported from Norway in May. It was 51,000 kilograms less than in May of the previous year. As such, 2.1 million kilos of imported salmon were further exported to Europe. In the first five months of 2020, a total of 17.5 million kilograms of fresh whole salmon were imported, of which 9.6 million kilograms were further exported to Europe.
7.9 million kilos of salmon imported to Finland at the beginning of the year remained, which was 0.3 million kilos more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of salmon imports increased by EUR 1.2 million and the value of exports by EUR 1.5 million. The value of salmon left in Finland decreased by EUR 5.2 million.
Of the total number of products imported for human consumption, 67% (4.8 million kg) came from Norway.
