In 2020, a total of 56.4 million cubic metres of roundwood were harvested for use by the forest industries. This removal volume was 7.3 million cubic metres, or 11%, lower than in the previous year. Total roundwood removals were 3% lower than the average volume during the previous ten-year period.
Sawlogs accounted for 24.3 and pulpwood for 32.1 million cubic metres of total roundwood removals. The felling volume of sawlogs decreased by 6% from the previous year, and that of pulpwood by 15%.
The majority (81%) of roundwood removals came from non-industrial private forests, totalling 45,6 million cubic metres, down by 14% from the previous year. Combined roundwood removals by forestry companies’ own forests and state-owned forests increased by 2% to 10.8 million cubic metres.
A total of 3.8 million cubic metres of energy wood were harvested. Of this amount, delimbed stems and whole trees accounted for 2.0 million cubic metres. The total volume of stumps and logging residues was 1.8 million cubic metres.
