  • Average per capita poultry consumption was 19.5 kilos, up half a kilo on the previous year. Consumption of both beef and pork declined by half a kilo. Beef consumption amounted to 18.4 kilos and pork consumption to 35.6 kilos.
  • There was no significant year-on-year change in the consumption of eggs, which averaged 10.7 kilos per capita.
  • An average of 129 litres of milk was drunk in 2013, of which about half was low-fat milk, 40 per cent skimmed milk and 10 per cent whole milk. Whole milk consumption rose by three per cent and skimmed milk consumption by about one per cent. Low-fat milk consumption decreased by one and a half per cent.
  • Per capita butter consumption continued to rise slightly, averaging 4.4 kilos last year.
  • Cheese consumption grew by six per cent to slightly over 23 kilos per person.
  • Total grain consumption was down one per cent from the previous year to 80 kilos. Wheat consumption decreased by just under one kilo. Rye, barley and oat consumption saw a year-on-year increase. Rice consumption was on a par with the previous year.
  • No major changes occurred in fruit consumption. Fresh fruit consumption amounted to slightly over 51 kilos, as in the previous year.
