Cereals purchased, used and stockpiled, 2016

During the year 2016 (change from previous year in brackets)

  • Industry and traders purchased a total of 2.0 billion kilos (-6%) of cereals and 77 million kilos (+33%) of rape and turnip rape from farms.  
  • The amounts purchased from farms included 263 million kilos (+8%) of bread wheat, 301 million kilos (-28%) of feed wheat, 72 million kilos (-14%) of rye, 170 million kilos (+1%) of malting barley, 577 million kilos (-8%) of feed barley and 585 million kilos (+6%) of oats.
  • A total of 1.3 billion kilos (-3%) of Finnish and imported cereals were used by relevant industries.    
  • 603 million kilos of cereals (-8%) were used for animal feed production, 425 million kilos (0%) for food production and 321 million kilos (+3%) for other industrial production.

At the end of year2016 (change from previous year in brackets):

  • Trade and industry stocks contained a combined total of 553 million kilos (-6%) of cereals.
  • The cereal stocks contained 140 million kilos (-29%) of wheat, 69 million kilos (-16%) of rye, 168 million kilos (+3%) of barley and 175 million kilos (+18%) of oats.
