The commercial inland fishery catch totalled 5.1 million kilos in 2021. In the previous year, the total catch was 5.3 million kilos.

  • Combined, vendace and pikeperch accounted for three fifths of the total commercial inland fishery catch. Vendace accounted for roughly 40% and pikeperch almost 20%.
  • The crayfish catch totalled approximately 734,000 crayfish, consisting almost completely of signal crayfish.  Noble crayfish, an indigenous species in Finland, only accounted for less than 1%.
  • The total value of the catch was EUR 15.4 million, the same as in the previous year. The total value of the catch recorded by group 1 fishers was EUR 14.2 million and that by group 2 fishers was EUR 1.2 million.
  • Measured by value, pikeperch was the most significant inland species. The value of the pikeperch catch increased slightly to EUR 6.0 million. Instead, the value of the vendace catch decreased slightly, being EUR 4.8 million roe included. Combined, these two species accounted for three quarters of the total value of the commercial inland fishery catch.
  • Signal crayfish was the third most valuable inland species (EUR 0.95 million). The total value of the European whitefish catch was EUR 0.88 million.
  • Of the catch of removal fishing of EUR 0.52 million kilos, roach accounted for slightly less than one third, other species a quarter, and bream one fifth. Other species include Eurasian ruffle, blue bream and small volumes of Arctic char, among others.
  • There were around 1,750 registered commercial inland fishers in Finland at the end of 2021. Of these, some 340 were group 1 fishers.
