In 2020, a total of 138,000 people worked in agriculture and horticulture, of whom roughly 65% were farmers and their family members.
Agricultural and horticultural work made up approximately 70,000 annual work units (AWU) in 2020, of which farmers and their family members accounted for 65%.
In 2020, one third of the agricultural and horticultural labour force were hired employees. The workload of hired employees has increased since 2016.
A total of 21,000 foreign employees worked in agriculture and horticulture. Foreign employees accounted for one quarter of full-time and half of short-term employees.
Since 2010, the number of agricultural and horticultural enterprises has decreased by 23%. At the same time, the number of people working in agriculture and horticulture has decreased by 25% and their workload by 10%. Instead, the volume of agricultural production has not decreased noticeably.
Every other farmer has a degree in agriculture and more than 90% have a vocational degree.
The preliminary results are published at a national level. The final results will also be published by region and production sector in the spring of 2022.
