The TARANDUS network will coordinate workshops in Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Norway, with different themes: animal health and welfare, infectious diseases and feeding related disorders and diseases in wild reindeer; especially focusing on the interlinkage between each theme - reindeer husbandry and climate change adaptation.
The long-term aim of the TARANDUS network is improved animal health and welfare through development of preventive management routines and optimal herding practices adapted to climate change for a sustainable reindeer herding with a low negative impact on the climate and environment.
Target group for the workshops are researchers, and particularly veterinarians working in the reindeer herding regions, stakeholders focusing on reindeer husbandry and climate change adaptation and reindeer herders. The network will also create opportunities for junior researchers to gain interest and increase their knowledge within the research area and arrange a seminar and/or exchanges of PhD students and/or post-doctoral researcher to build early-career networks. These seminars will be held by senior researchers within the network. At the end of 2022, we plan for joint research applications with focus on improved animal health and welfare in reindeer herding in a changing era.
