Led by Norwegian Directorate of Health (DOH) and supported by more than 100 partners, the Health Joint Action PREVENT project aims to tackle non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their risk factors at both the individual and societal levels. NCDs, including cancer, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory diseases pose significant challenges to public health, with over 75% of individuals facing the risk of these diseases. Luke’s task in the project is to examine the role played by the EU and national policies in relation to nutrition and to assess how policy instruments can support or hinder the achievement of national public health goals relating to healthy and sustainable food systems. Policies to be studied include agricultural, environmental, trade and consumer policies. National policies on urban planning, environment, climate and forestry are also analysed for their potential to further enhance physical activity, in particular, and planetary health more generally.
