With genomic selection towards Fusarium resistant oat cultivars

GenoKaura

Finnish climate and agricultural practices result to high quality oats. The quality and production of oats are, however, threatened by Fusarium head blight disease (FHB) and Fusarium mycotoxins which importance has increased during past years. In order to control the disease, more resistant cultivars are needed to support current disease management practices. The aim of this project is to develop and deploy a genomic selection tool for FHB breeding in oats and also to select suitable phenotyping methods to support it. A training population of 300 oat genotypes will be genotyped and phenotyped for various FHB components. This is a collaborative project with Boreal Plant breeding and Helsinki University.
