All-time record harvest for greenhouse cucumber

News 18.3.2026

In 2025, weather conditions favoured the outdoor production of vegetables, with total harvest increasing from the previous year’s decline. A total of 219 million kilograms was harvested from outdoors, most of this vegetables. The greenhouse vegetable harvest totalled 96 million kilograms, and a total of 106 million pots of potted vegetables was produced.

In 2025, there were a total of 2,760 horticultural enterprises, of which 2,250 were engaged in outdoor production, and 710 in greenhouse production. The total production area was 18,000 hectares, of which 350 hectares were greenhouse area. The number of enterprises has slightly decreased in recent years, but production areas have remained relatively unchanged. The annual variation in crop harvests is particularly affected by outdoor cultivation, in which the production is very sensitive to weather conditions.

A good carrot summer  – worse for frozen peas

194 million kilograms of outdoor vegetables were harvested, almost nine million kilograms more than in 2024. Although the cultivation area of frozen peas increased by almost one hundred hectares, the yield level was lower than in the previous year, and the total harvest amounted to just under five million kilos.

The harvest was weakened by local rains and drought, as well as simultaneous maturing. As a result, pea harvesters were unable to harvest all the crops in time.

In turn, carrots benefited from the growing season’s conditions: the harvest totalled 78 million kilograms, and at its best, the harvest exceeded 100,000 kg per hectare, which is a very good level.

Greenhouse cucumber is also exported

The production of greenhouse cucumbers increased to a record 56 million kilograms, which is almost two million kilograms more than in 2024. The increase in production also enabled exports, and slightly less than six million kilos of cucumbers were exported to the Baltic States and Poland last year.

In contrast, tomato production remained at 36 million kilos. This is partly due to the fact that a third of the total tomato production area is already used for the cultivation of special tomatoes, and their harvest level is lower than those of ordinary tomatoes.

Strawberry harvest increased to 13 million kilos

The strawberry harvest increased by 1.5 million kilograms compared with 2024, with a total harvest of just under 13 million kilograms. The tunnel production area for strawberries was 89 hectares and for raspberries 33 hectares. The total tunnel production area was 127 hectares. The main production areas for strawberries and raspberries were North Savon and Southwest Finland, while bush berries were cultivated in Eastern Finland.
