According to preliminary data, the gross stumpage earnings of forest owners were EUR 2.17 billion in 2017. The earnings of private non-industrial forest owners totalled EUR 1.86 billion, and those of the forest industry and the state EUR 0.31 billion.
In euro terms, the earnings were almost 100 million higher than the year before. In spite of that, the earnings in real terms stayed at the same level, when prices were converted using the wholesale price.
The earnings were 8% above the ten-year average. Non-industrial private forest owners’ earnings were up by 11%, but those of the forest industry and state were down by 7%.
Spruce log was the most important wood assortment and spruce the most important tree species. The share of the earnings of spruce log stayed below 40%. The importance of spruce was greatest in Southern Finland, while in Ostrobothnia and Northern Finland pine was clearly the most important tree species. The most important pulpwood assortment was pine pulpwood (12%). Saw timber accounted for almost 70% of earnings.
