The One-Stop-Shop of accessible circular solutions for sustainable tourism

VERNE

The one-stop-shop of accessible circular solutions for sustainable tourism (VERNE) project aims to accelerate the transition of local and regional tourist destinations toward more sustainable and circular models across Europe. The project seeks to redefine sustainable tourism by integrating circular economy principles that minimise waste, reduce energy consumption and climate impact, and safeguard local ecosystems.

VERNE envisions a transformative shift to a tourism model which places sustainability and circular principles at their core. By fostering collaboration across sectors such as mobility, food, construction, and waste management, the project promotes resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible practices that benefit both local communities and industry stakeholders.

The main objectives of the project are:

Promoting Circular Solutions to reduce resource depletion and emissions while promoting the reuse and recycling of materials within the tourism sector.

Engaging with diverse stakeholders, from industry leaders and policymakers to local communities and tourists, to co-develop integrated and practical solutions.

Creating the VERNE One-Stop-Shop for Sustainable Tourism.

Luke's pilot will focus on promoting nature-based tourism in Uusimaa, exploring the potential of virtual nature tours in the development of sustainable tourism. The pilot will actively cooperate with tourism businesses and stakeholders in the Uusimaa region. Virtual nature tourism services will be developed and piloted at Luke's immersive virtual nature laboratory in Helsinki.

VERNE’s ambitious mission is driven by a consortium of 15 multidisciplinary organisations from 10 European countries and funded by the EU.

VERNE promotes circular economy strategies to create a sustainable and collaborative tourism ecosystem, responding to environmental, social and economic challenges.
