Description
The statistics give the volumes and prices of roundwood bought by the forest industries from non-industrial, private forests (NIPF).
Content
The statistics are compiled by roundwood assortment, type of sale (standing and delivery sales) and region and since 2011, standing sales also by felling method. Wood quantities are expressed as solid volumes over bark (m³) and prices in euros per solid cubic metre over bark (€/m³).
Categories
Types of sale from private forests include standing and delivery (roadside) sales. Standing sales are further divided into regeneration fellings, thinnings and first thinnings.
The assortments in the statistics include small-sized pine and spruce logs, pine, spruce and birch logs and pine, spruce and birch pulpwood. The statistics also include specific roundwood assortments.
Prices are given by price region (7). The annual statistics also provide prices and volumes in more detail (13 forest centres).
Data collection and sources
The prices and volumes in the statistics are based on the trade agreements between the buyers and sellers of roundwood. Most of the information is collected by the Finnish Forest Industries Federation, which provides aggregated trade data of its member companies to Luke. Also included is information from some member companies of Finnish Sawmills. They submit their monthly trade information directly to Luke.
Update frequency
The statistics are compiled monthly and annually.
Preparation and publication schedule
Monthly statistics are published about three weeks after the reporting month, and the annual statistics about six weeks after the end of the year.
Time series
Annual statistics on roundwood prices have been available since the 1950s. More detailed information has been available since the 1980s.
