Utilised Agricultural Area 2018

In 2018, the most significant changes in cultivation areas were the decrease in the cereal area to 1,040,100 hectares (-31,100 hectares) and the increase in the feed grass area to 762,600 hectares (+45,700 hectares).

  • The barley area went up by 6% to 463,000 hectares, whereas the cultivated area of oats (324,300 hectares, -4%), wheat (190,000 hectares, -13%) and rye (17,400 hectares, -46%) decreased.
  • The caraway area continued to increase to 27,700 hectares (+15%).
  • The broad bean area decreased by one-tenth to 19,700 hectares (-11%).
  • The turnip rape area decreased to 30,800 hectares (-16%), while remaining higher than the oilseed rape area (27,500 hectares, -3%).
  • The last time the feed grass area (762,600 hectares) was higher was in 1995. The area increased by 45,900 hectares (+6%) from the previous year.
  • The area of fallows decreased by 3% to 246,300 hectares.
  • The area of horticultural crops remained nearly unchanged at 15,500 hectares (-1%).

The total agricultural area was 2,271,900 hectares on a total of 47,430 farms listed in the register of agricultural and horticultural enterprises. More information.
