Utilised Agricultural Area 2017

Crop and crop group specific cultivation areas and numbers of farms are available in the statistics database for the whole country and by Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment and by municipality.

  • The area for grains, 1,071,200 hectares, still covers about half of the total arable land, but is 37,800 hectares lower (-3%)
  • The sown area of barley, 437,100 hectares (-10%) decreased while area of oats 337,400 ha and (+2%), and rye 31,800 hectares (+20%) increased.  Area for wheat 218,600 ha (-2%) decreased slightly
  • The area of caraway increased to around 24,000 hectares (+17%)

  • The area of broad bean increased to 22,100 hectares (+34%)

  • The area of oilseed rape (36,700 ha, +17%) exceeded that of turnip rape (28,500 ha, -7%)

  • The area of feed grasses, 716,900 hectares, was last this high in 1995. The area grew by 29,300 hectares (+4%)

In 2017, the utilized agricultural area was 2,272,200 hectares e.g. slightly lower than in 2016 (-2,300 ha). Area composes of 48,341 agricultural and horticultural enterprises in Finland.
