Statistics on cereals purchased and used by industry and trade, Q1 2010

During the first quarter of 2010:

Cereals purchased

  • A total of 540 million kilos of cereals entered the market from farms.
  • Barley accounted for almost half (250 million kilos) of all cereal purchases.
  • Bread wheat purchases from farms (110 million kilos) were noticeably larger than in 2009.
  • A total of 40 million kilos of rape and turnip rape entered the market from farms.

Cereals used

  • Industry used a total of 310 million kilos of cereals.
  • Almost 100 million kilos of cereals were used for food and 130 million kilos for feed.
  • Almost 40 million kilos of barley were used for malting.
