Cereals purchased, used and stockpiled, Q4 2017 and year 2017

During the year 2017 (change from previous year in brackets)

  • A total of 1.9 billion kilos (-4%) of cereals entered the market from farms, of which bread wheat 223 million kilos (-15%), feed wheat 313 million kilos (+4%), rye 88 million kilos (+23%), malting barley 175 million kilos (+3%), feed barley 520 million kilos (-10%) and oats 568 million kilos (-3%).  
  • Industry in Finland used a total of 1.4 billion kilos (+3%) cereals, of which 624 million kilos of cereals (+3%) were used for animal feed production, 426 million kilos (0%) for food production and 337 million kilos (+6%) for other industrial production.    

During the last quarter of 2017 (change from previous year in brackets)

  • A total of 39 million kilos (-54%) of bread wheat entered the market from farms. Other purchases were following: feed wheat 85 million kilos (+66%), rye 15 million kilos (+54%), malting barley 39 million kilos (-6%), feed barley 95 million kilos (+9%) and oats 155 million kilos (+34%).
  • Feed industry in Finland used 148 million kilos (-6%), food industry 107 million kilos (-3%) and other industries 89 million kilos (+10%).

At the end of year2017 (change from previous year in brackets):

Trade and industry stocks contained 133 million kilos (-5%) of wheat, 82 million kilos (+19%) of rye, 137 million kilos (-19%) of barley and 181 million kilos (+3%) of oats.
