Cereals purchased, used and stockpiled, Q2 2020 and crop year 2019/2020

During the crop year 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020 (change from previous crop year  in brackets):

  • Industry and traders purchased a total of 1.2.billion kilos (+32 %) of cereals and 46 million kilos (-26 %) of rape and turnip rape from farms.
  • The amounts purchased from farms included 768 million kilos (+17%) of barley, 572 million kilos (+54 %) of wheat, 701 million kilos (+29%) of oats and 109 million kilos (+75%) of rye.
  • A total of 1.4 billion kilos (+3%) of Finnish and imported cereals were used by relevant industries.
  • 589 million kilos (+5%) of cereals were used for animal feed production and 454 million kilos (+6%) for food production. 327 million kilos (-4%) were used for other industrial production.

At the end of June 2020 :(change from June 2019 in brackets)

  • Trade and industry stocks contained a combined total of 367 million kilos (-12%) of cereals.
  • The cereals stocks contained 85 million kilos (-18%) of wheat, 80 million kilos (+48%) of rye, 101 million kilos (-29%) of barley and 101 million kilos (-14%) of oats.
