Cereals purchased, used and stockpiled by industry and trade, 2012

Cereals purchased directly from farms in 2012:

  • Cereal purchases totalled 1.9 billion kilos, a year-on-year increase of 0.2 billion kilos.
  • Purchases of feed wheat saw the greatest increase, up 50 per cent on the previous year. The greatest change was seen in the fourth quarter.
  • Rye purchases grew by 10 per cent.
  • A total of 70 million kilos of turnip rape and rape were purchased, a year-on-year decrease of 33 million kilos.

 Use of cereals in industry in 2012:

  • Industry used a total of 1.3 billion kilos of cereals.
  • The feed industry used 46 per cent and the food industry 31 per cent.
  • The use of wheat for feed increased by 23 million kilos compared with the previous year, while its use for food decreased by 12 million kilos.

 Cereals stockpiled by trade and industry at the end of 2012:

  • A total of 550 million kilos of cereals and 11 million kilos of turnip rape and rape.
