Milk production decreased in the area of many Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY). Proportionally, milk production decreased most in South-East Finland and South Savonia, by 4 per cent. Production increased in the area of some Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, with Ostrobothnia and Kainuu representing the highest increases.
North Ostrobothnia, North Savonia and Ostrobothnia produced more than 10 per cent more milk than they did 15 years ago. In practically all other areas, milk production has decreased. In the country as a whole, milk production has decreased by 6 per cent over the past 15 years.
Finland has 336 municipalities, of which 320 produced milk in the quota period 2012–13.
The largest producers were the same as in the previous period: Kokkola, Kiuruvesi, Nivala, Vieremä, Jalasjärvi, Lapinlahti and Kauhava, all of which produced more than 30 million litres of milk.
