Milk and Milk Product Statistics, year 2016

• Milk production decreased to 2,359 million litres in 2016. Dairies received 2,320 million litres of milk and farms used about 39 million litres of milk.
• In December 2016, milk producers numbered 7,318 - 575 less than in 2015.
• Organic milk production was 55 million litres and there were 139 organic milk producers.
• There were 275,375 dairy cows in December 2016, which is two per cent less than in December 2015.
• A dairy cow's average yield rose to 8,400 litres.

Production volumes of dairy products

Compared to the previous year, in year 2016:

• The production volumes of liquid dairy products fell by 3%
• Butter production rose by 2%
• Cheese production fell by 5%.
