Beef production rose to about 82 million kilos in 2009. Production increased in many Employment and Economic Development Centre regions.
Over half of all beef was produced on farms in the Employment and Economic Development Centre regions of Northern Ostrobothnia, Northern Savonia, Southern Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia.
The most beef was produced in Kiuruvesi (2.8 million kg), Siikajoki (1.6 million kg) and in Kauhava and Kalajoki, which both produced about 1.5 million kg each. Kokkola, Pedersöre, Jalasjärvi, Nivala and Kruunupyy also broke the million-kilo mark.
Pork production fell to 206 million kilos in 2009. Production decreased in all other Employment and Economic Development Centre regions except Ostrobothnia.
The most pork was produced in Huittinen (13.3 million kg), Loimaa (11.8 million kg) and Ilmajoki (9.4 million kg).
Mutton and lamb production decreased last year. As in 2008, the most mutton (about 36,000 kg) was produced in Jomala on the Åland Islands.
