Crop production 2021

The 2021 cereal harvest totalled 2.6 million tons. The barley harvest was one third lower than average, while the oat harvest was a quarter lower and the rye and wheat harvests a fifth lower than average. The last time the barley harvest was this low was in the 1970s and the oat harvest in the 1980s.

  • Totalling 1.032 million tons, the barley harvest decreased by 25%
  • Totalling 790,000 tons, the oats harvest decreased by 34%
  • Totalling 678,000 tons - the wheat harvest corresponded to that of last year
  • Totalling 67,000 tons – the rye harvest corresponded to that of last year
  • The potato harvest, 559,000 tons, was 11% lower year-on-year
  • The peas harvest, 43,000 tons, was 21% lower year-on-year

The total organic cereals harvest for 2021 – 116,000 tons – was 26% lower than in 2020, which accounts for 4 per cent of the total cereals harvest in Finland.

  • The production of oats decreased by 25,000 tons to 58,000 tons (-30%).
  • The production of barley decreased by 10,000 tons to 12,000 tons (-46%).
  • The production of rye stayed stable in 10,000 tons (+6%).
  • The production of wheat stayed stable in 18,000 tons (+2%).
