Crop production 2021 (provisional)

This autumn’s cereal harvest totalled 2.6 million tons. It is nearly 30 per cent smaller than the average cereal harvest during the previous ten years. The last time the cereal harvest was as small was in 1992. Production in 2021 (change from previous year in brackets):

  • Barley 1.023 million tons (-26%)
  • Oats 783,000 (-34%)
  • Wheat 677,000 tons (+1%)
  • Rye 67,000 tons (-5%)
  • Potatoes 554,000 tons (-11%)
  • Peas 43,000 tons (-20%)

 The total organic cereals harvest for 2021 – 113,000 tons – was 28% lower than in 2020, which accounts for 4 per cent of the total cereals harvest in Finland. Organic production in 2021 (change from previous year in brackets):

  • Oats 57,000 tons (-31%).
  • Wheat 17,000 tons (-4%).
  • Barley 13,000 tons (-44%).
  • Rye 9,500 tons (+/-0%).

The information will be reported as final in February 2021, when the confirmed data supplied by farms included in the sample will become available for the calculation of harvest volumes.
