This NordForsk project aims to determine whether shifts in seasonal water availability driven by modern climate change are constraining tree growth and diminishing biodiversity in drained forest landscapes. We as parters form colleagues from Estonia and Latvia, will also evaluate if low-cost adaptation measures like overflow dams, peak-runoff control structures or adjustable culvert gates, could extend water retention within drainage systems can alleviate drought stress, sustain or boost tree growth, and foster ecosystem-level biodiversity under a changing climate.
