The project develops new solutions for capturing and utilising carbon dioxide from flue gases. The aim is to strengthen the value chains of renewable energy, the bioeconomy and the circular economy by creating an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective process that uses locally available raw materials. This involves converting carbon dioxide from flue gases into valuable bio-based chemicals and renewable energy sources.

Natural resources institute (Luke) developes biochemical and Oulu University chemical conversion methods together with advanced membrane technologies for gas purification and separation. The project generates new knowledge relating to the circular economy, environmental technologies and renewable fuels. The project advances industry-driven research and development and supports the implementation of EU climate and environmental policy targets.

The project has received funding through the Council of Oulu Region (Pohjois-Pohjanmaan Liitto) from the Innovative and Skilled Finland 2021–2027 EU Regional and Structural Policy Programme, under the Just Transition Fund (JTF). The City of Oulu is also a co-funder of the project.
