Trade of energywood, 4th quarter and year 2016

The last quarter of year 2016:

  • Share of logging residues was close to half of energywood sales in the last quarter of 2016. The average price paid for it was EUR 3.5 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 14.9 in delivery sales.
  • In standing sales the price of logging residues were up by 11 per cent and in delivery sales by 5 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
  • Two fifths of the wood purchased as raw material for forest chips was pruned stemwood. This was the most valuable type of energywood; the average price paid for it was EUR 4.5 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 22.4 in delivery sales.
  • In standing sales the unit price of pruned stems increased by 3 per cent and in delivery sales the price was down by 3 per cent compared to the previous quarter.

Year 2016:

  • The average price paid for energywood was EUR 3.5 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 20.4 in delivery sales.
  • Pruned stemwood valued EUR 4.3 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 22.7 in delivery sales. In standing sales the price was up by 38 per cent (+1.2 e/m³) and in delivery sales it was down by 8 per cent (–2.0 e/m³) compared to the previous year.
  • In standing sales the price of logging residues was EUR 3.2 (–5 %) and the price of stumps was EUR 1.5 (+54 %) per cubic metre.
  • There was a considerable regional variation in the price of energywood assortments.
  • The extent of data collection of statistic fluctuates. Excluding that, the amount of energywood purchased in standing sales was one sixth lower and that in delivery sales a little over quarter lower than one year earlier.

The recorded prices do not include government subsidy and the prices may also be negative. Subsidy payments have been rejected after 6.5.2016, but were received until that by a considerable portion of pruned and unpruned stems.
