Utilised Agricultural Area 2020

In 2020, the total agricultural area was 2,270,000 hectares on a total of 45,384 farms listed in the register of agricultural and horticultural enterprises.

  • The area under winter wheat (24,430 ha) decreased by about 40% from the previous year. The area of winter rye (18,830 ha) was also halved. The spring wheat cultivation area (185,290 ha) grew by 11% and the oats area (347,600 ha) about 9%. The sown area of barley remained almost unchanged at 457,180 ha. 
  • The area under peas (24,740 ha) increased by almost 80 % and rose higher than the area under field beans (17 910 ha) and potatoes (21,140 ha), which remained almost unchanged.
  • The caraway area decreased to 20,170 hectares, a decrease of 16% from the previous year.
  • The rape area decreased sharply as in the previous year, with the area under cultivation only 10,780 hectares (-44%). The turnip rape area (18,900 ha), which had fallen in the previous year, recovered, growing by 7%.
  • The growth of the forage grassland, 780,650 hectares, in recent years was reversed. The area decreased by 5,600 hectares (-1%) from the previous year.
  • The area of fallows continued to decline; the area decreased to 207,250 hectares (-7%).
  • The area of ​​horticultural crops, 16,200 hectares, increased slightly (+2%).
