Cereals purchased, used and stockpiled, Q2 2018 and crop year 2017/2018

During the crop year 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018: (chance from previous crop year in brackets):

  • Industry and traders purchased a total of 1.9 billion kilos (-5 %) of cereals and 62 million kilos (-24 %) of rape and turnip rape from farms.
  • The amounts purchased from farms included 663 million kilos (-10 %) of barley, 524 million kilos (-9 %) of wheat, 591 million kilos (+1 %) of oats and 91 million kilos (+20 %) of rye.
  • A total of 1.4 billion kilos (+1 %) of Finnish and imported cereals were used by relevant industries.
  • 627 million kilos (+2 %) of cereals were used for animal feed production and 421 million kilos (-2 %) for food production. 340 million kilos (+5 %) were used for other industrial production.

At the end of June 2018:

  • Trade and industry stocks contained a combined total of 450 million kilos (+8 %) of cereals.
  • The cereal stocks contained 129 million kilos (+24 %) of wheat, 69 million kilos (+15 %) of rye, 111 million kilos (-11 %) of barley and 142 million kilos (+8 %) of oats.
