Published 1.4.2020

Producer price of fish species covered by fishing quotas in October–December 2019

  • The price of Baltic herring intended for human consumption increased to EUR 0.41 per kilo during the final quarter. The increase in the price especially concerned large-sized Baltic herring intended for human consumption, mainly used to produce smoked fish.
  • The price of sprat and Baltic herring intended for industrial use was EUR 0.18 per kilo, the same as during the third quarter. The majority of the sprat catch is used as feed.
  • During the final quarter of 2019, the total price of Baltic herring increased to EUR 0.22 per kilo, being a little higher than the 2018 average price of EUR 0.20 per kilo.
  • The salmon catch was low, and the price of salmon increased to EUR 8.48 per kilo during the final quarter, mainly due to the salmon catch being caught and sold in the Uusimaa and Southeast Finland region, in which prices are slightly higher than in other parts of Finland.
