Meat Production by Area 2010

  • Beef production grew to 83 million kilos in 2010 (including on-farm slaughter).
  • Beef production increased in many Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment regions. The largest relative growth in production was seen in North Ostrobothnia (+6%).
  • As in the previous year, the largest amounts of beef were produced in Kiuruvesi (2.9 million kg), Siikajoki (1.9 million kg) and Kalajoki (1.7 million kg).
  • Pork production declined for the second year running. In 2010, production amounted to 203 million kilos.
  • Pork production decreased in many Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment regions. In relative terms, the greatest decline was seen in Southeast Finland and North Karelia, down more than 10 per cent year-on-year. Production increased in South Ostrobothnia, Ostrobothnia and North Ostrobothnia.
  • The largest pork-producing municipalities, Huittinen and Loimaa, both produced about 12 million kilos of pork.
  • Last year, mutton production amounted to 0.79 million kilos (including on-farm slaughter).
  • The greatest amount of mutton was produced in the Åland Islands (0.12 million kg).
