Horticultural Statistics 2015

  • In 2015, the total number of horticultural enterprises was 3,613, an increase of 70 enterprises (+2%) compared to the year before. The change in the statistics method is reflected in the number of enterprises as a slight increase.
  • Outdoor cultivation area was 16,628 hectares (+4%) and greenhouse area 392 hectares (+1%).
  • In terms of cultivation area, the most important outdoor vegetables were pea (3,060 ha), carrot (1,652 ha) and onion (1,150 ha).
  • The total harvest of outdoor vegetables amounted to 166 million kilos, of which 64 million kilos were carrots.
  • A record harvest of 17 million kilos of berries was produced in an area of 5,834 hectares. Strawberries accounted for 14 million kilos and 3,384 hectares.
  • The amount of greenhouse vegetables produced was 83 million kilos, of which 38 million kilos were tomatoes and 40 million kilos were cucumbers.
  • Special tomatoes accounted for 3.8 million kilos or 10% of the total production of tomatoes.
  • The production of potted vegetables increased to a new record, 112 million pots. The growth of potted lettuce production turned down to 82 million pots, while the share of other potted vegetables grew to 13 million pots.   
  •  The cultivation area of ornamental plants in greenhouses totalled 123 hectares.
