Agricultural Census 2020: Energy consumption of agriculture and horticulture 2020 (provisional)

  • Agricultural and horticultural production consumed a total of 10,723 GWh of energy in 2020
  • The most significant individual energy sources were motor fuel oil (3,199 GWh) forest chips (3,069 GWh), and electricity (1 883 GWh)
  • Share on renewable energy in heat generation (wood and field biomass) was almost 60%  
  • Agriculture and horticulture consumed 3 percent of Finland's total energy consumption.
  • The data presented herein is preliminary. The publication date for final data will be updated  in the Release calendar of Luke’s statistics in the end on year 2021.
  • Correction in press release: in ten years the number of farms has decreased by 14,000 (-23%) (not 1,400)
