After two weaker harvest years, Finland’s cereal harvest returned to an average level in 2022. According to Luke’s Crop Production Statistics, the cereal harvest was 3.5 million tons. The organic cereal harvest was roughly 180,000 tons, accounting for 5% of the total cereal harvest.

  • Totalling 1.411 million tons, the barley harvest increased by 37%
  • Totalling 1.174 million tons, the oats harvest increased by 49%
  • Totalling 852,000 tons - the wheat harvest increased by 26%
  • Totalling 64,000 tons – the rye harvest decreased by 4%
  • The potato harvest, 533,000 tons, decreased by 5%
  • The peas harvest, 91,000 tons, was 115% higher year-on-year

Information about the quality of the grain harvest has been compiled by combining the harvest information collected by Luke and Finnish Food Authority's grain quality monitoring information. 

The total organic cereals harvest for 2022 – 179,000 tons – was 54% higher than in 2021, which accounts for 5 per cent of the total cereals harvest in Finland.

  • The production of oats increased by 49,000 tons to 106,500 tons (+83%).
  • The production of barley increased by 3,700 tons to 16,200 tons (+30%).
  • The production of rye decreased to 9,500 tons (-6%).
  • The production of wheat increased to 22,300 tons (+22%).
