In 2025 a total of 62.8 million cubic meters of logs and pulpwood were harvested for industrial use and exports. The harvest volume increased 0.5 million cubic metres compared to the previous year. Compared to the average level of the previous five years, the volume increased by one per cent. A total of 8.0 million cubic metres of energy wood was harvested, and the harvesting volume decreased by three percent from the previous year.

Industrial wood

  • The majority of roundwood removals came from non-industrial private forests (80%), totaling 50.4 million (+1% from the previous year).
  • In state-owned and forestry company forests, 12.4 million cubic meters of industrial wood were harvested (+1%).
  • Log removals totaled 28.5 million cubic meters (-1 %), and pulpwood removals amounted to 34.3 million cubic meters (+2 %).
  • Pine was the most harvested species, totaling 28.5 million cubic meters. Spruce accounted for 25.0 million cubic meters, and birch for 9.3 million cubic meters.
  • More than six million cubic meters of industrial wood were harvested from North Karelia (6.7 million m³), North Savo (6.5 million m³) and North Ostrobothnia (6.2 million m³).
  • The largest relative increase in industrial roundwood fellings was recorded in Satakunta, Central Ostrobothnia and Lapland, while the largest relative decrease occurred in Kymenlaakso and South Karelia.
  • Industrial roundwood removals exceeded a million cubic meters in the municipalities of Kuopio (1.4 million m3) and Mikkeli (1.1 million m3).

Energywood

  • A total of 8.0 million cubic meters of energywood was harvested for use in heating and power plants (-3%).
  • The share of whole-tree wood and delimbed stemwood of the harvested energy wood was 59% (69% in 2024).
  • The harvested volume of delimbed stemwood and whole-tree wood decreased by 17%, while the harvested volume of logging residues and stumps increased by 30% compared with the previous year.
