The 2021 cereal harvest of 2.6 million tons was a quarter lower than normal. It was insufficient to cover domestic consumption of 2.8 million tons. The gap was bridged by emptying stocks and importing foreign wheat and barley. The cereal balance sheet estimate over the period of 1 July 2021 – 30 June 2022 will be specified as final in a year from now.
The figures for the 1 July 2021–30 June 2022 crop year are still provisional at this time, and a final cereals balance sheet will be published in September 2023.
