Cereals balance sheet, 2022- 2023 (provisional) and 2021 - 2022 final figures

The 2022 cereal harvest of 3.6 million tons was normal. It was insufficient to cover domestic consumption of 2.6 million tons. The cereal balance sheet estimates over the period of 1 July 2022 – 30 June 2023 will be specified as final in a year from now.

  • A total of 3.6 million tons of cereals were harvested in 2022
  • Approximately 1.6 million tons, was used to feed livestock.
  • Approximately 440,000 tons was used for food production, with wheat accounting half - Oats use for food (135,000 tons) was more than rye (74,000 tons).
  • A total of 332,000 tons of cereals were exported and 62,000 tons imported during the year. The biggest export was oats at approximately 218,000 tons.

The figures for the 1 July 2022–30 June 2023 crop year are still provisional at this time, and a final cereals balance sheet will be published in September 2024.
