In 2025, nearly 18 million kilograms of fish were cultivated for human consumption in Finland. Total production was just over one million kilos more than in 2024.

  • The value of food fish production was EUR 102 million, nine million euros higher than in 2024.
  • Three quarters (13.3 million kilos) of food fish was farmed in the marine area. The Åland Islands accounted for half of this.
  • The production of rainbow trout amounted to 17 million kilograms, which accounts for 95 percent of total food fish production. The production of cultivated European whitefish totaled 0.8 million kilograms. A total of just over 100 000 kilograms of char and trout were produced.
  • About 0.5 million kilograms of rainbow trout roe was sold for food. Its value was EUR 11.6 million.
  • Apart from use in the food industry, fish fry were farmed for restocking in natural water and for food fish production. The value of fry fish production was EUR 34 million. 
  • In 2025, there were 190 fish farming enterprises operating in Finland. The number of enterprises has decreased by a third over the past ten years.
