The main goal of the project is to launch 5–7 researched best Finnish aroma hop varieties on the market. Certified plant production and developing the integrated plant protection enables the utilization of the raw material of the new Finnish varietal in the brewing industry.
The project promotes the commercial and large-scale utilization of Finnish hops by mapping the related challenges and planning ways to meet them in cooperation with breweries, nurseries and farmers. The cultivation and utilization of hops adapted to Finnish conditions promotes the use of plant genetic resources in the best possible way.
Finnish high-quality hops create business for the small trade sector of the bioeconomy and larger companies. With the help of cultivation of hop strains that are successful in Finland and are best suited for beer production or other special use, it is possible to expand the cultivation selection of special plants and thus promote the vitality of the countryside.
