Forest pathogens and alien species

This project concentrates on the epidemiology, biology and diagnostics of known common tree pathogens as well as invasive alien species affecting forests and tree nurseries in Finland. The project research, based on both traditional and molecular biology methods, elaborates preventive and restorative manners against tree diseases.

The results obtained in the project increase the scientifical and practical knowledge of tree diseases. Information of new spreading pathways and epidemiology of forest diseases can be utilized in accurating silvicultural practices and disease control. By sustaining and enhancing forest health, the project supports both environmental and economic aspects of the forests.
