Trade of energywood, 1st quarter 2016

Published 7.6.2016

• Almost half of the energywood purchased in the first quarter of 2016 as raw material for forest chips was pruned stemwood. This was the most valuable type of energywood; the average price paid for it was EUR 5.4 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 22.8 in delivery sales.

• In standing sales the price of pruned stems increased EUR 1.9, or as much as 52 per cent compared to the previous quarter. In delivery sales, the unit price was down by two per cent.

• Logging residues accounted for almost two fifths of energywood sales. The average price paid for it was EUR 3.0 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 14.9 in delivery sales. These prices were down by 14 and 1 per cent compared to the previous quarter.

• Data collection of statistic has enlarged. Excluding that, the amount of energywood purchased in standing sales was one fourth lower and that in delivery sales half lower compared with the corresponding period of last year.

The following corrections have been made 29th August 2016: prices and volumes of pruned stems in standing sales in the first quarter of 2016.

The recorded prices may also be negative as they do not include government subsidy, which was received by a considerable portion of pruned and unpruned stems.
