Finland’s 2.3 million hectare arable land area’s major changes in 2010 were transition from grain (-191,000 ha) to oilseeds and protein crops (+ 87,000 ha) and fallow (+77,000 ha).
Grain cultivation area, 1,012,000 hectares, is the smallest in 15 years.
Barley area, 448,000 hectares, decreased a quarter from 2009.
Turnip rape area, 142,000 hectares, doubled from 2009. The area was the largest in the 100 years of history in arable land statistics.
Broad bean expectedly increased its popularity. The area became threefold to approximately 9,500 hectares.
