Number of pigs 1 April 2022 and number of sheep and goats 1 May 2022 (provisional)

On 1 April 2022, there were about 1.06 million pigs on 790 farms. The number of pigs decreased by 4% and the number of holdings by 8% compared to the previous year.
The number of sows was around 75 000, down 9% on last year.
The number of sheep decreased by 2% on the previous year, reaching just under 128 000 on 1 May 2022. There were just over 49 000 (-6%) lamb ewes.
The number of goats in spring 2022 was just over 6 000.
