Number of cattle and pigs 1 December 2012

- The number of cattle at start of Decmber was 901,400. This almost equals the number at the corresponding time last year.
- The number of dairy cows and calves decreased , whereas that of suckler cows, heifers and bulls increased.
- The number of pigs went down from the previous year to about 1.27 million pigs.
- The number of sows decreased by 3 per cent during the year.
