The number of cattle at start of May was 914,440. A total of 12,940 farms had cattle.
The number of dairy cows, suckler cows, bulls and calves increased whereas that of heifers decreased.
The number of dairy cows was 285,250. The average number of dairy cows at a farm was 32. There were about 300 farms with more than 100 dairy cows in each.
There were about 57,800 suckler cows at the start of May. The average number of suckler cows at a farm was 26. There were just over 300 farms with more than 50 suckler cows in each.
