In quota period 2009/10, the volume of dairy milk amounted to 2,223 million litres, up 1.7 per cent on the previous quota period. Dairy milk production fell short of the country quota by 216 million litres, or 9 per cent.
At the end of the quota period, there were about 11,100 milk producers, a year-on-year decline of approximately five per cent.
Milk production increased in many ELY Centres. Production grew the most in Ostrobothnia and Northern Ostrobothnia, increasing by slightly over three per cent in both regions.
Milk production rose by 2.2% in support area C. Production declined slightly in support areas A and B (-0.1%).
The greatest milk production volume was seen in Kokkola, where it rose to 51 million litres, followed by Kiuruvesi (46 million litres) and Nivala (39 million litres).
