Milk and Milk Product Statistics, 12/2023 (provisional)

In December, just under 177 million litres of milk were produced, almost the same as in the previous year. 

According to preliminary statistics, 2 132 million litres of milk was produced in 2023. The number of milk producers fell by 8% during year, to around 4 200 at the end of the year.  The number of organic milk producers fell by 20%, with the number of producers falling below 100. Organic milk production was just over 73 million litres, down 9% on the previous year.

Compared to previous year, in December 2023:

• Milk production:  0%
• Production of liquid dairy products: - 3%
• Butter production:  -3%
• Cheese production:   +2%

Compared to the previous year, in year 2023:

• Milk production was 2 132 million liter (-1 %)
• The production volumes of liquid dairy products fell by 2%
• Butter production rose by 1%
• Cheese production rose by 3%.
